Caring for
Your Wood Furniture

How durable are the finishes on custom wood furniture?

Every piece is finished using high-quality professional products designed to protect the integrity of the wood while enhancing its natural beauty. It’s important to understand that wood furniture is still a natural material and no finish is completely immune to wear over time.

Just like fine hardwood flooring or luxury cabinetry, custom furniture can develop signs of use through daily living. Scratches, dents, water rings, heat marks, and subtle changes can occur depending on how the piece is used and cared for. While protective finishes minimize these effects to some degree, there is no finish that can make real wood completely impervious to damage without sacrificing the natural character and feel that make handcrafted furniture special.

Part of the beauty of solid wood furniture is that it ages naturally and develops character over time. With proper care, your piece can remain beautiful for generations while retaining the warmth and authenticity of real wood craftsmanship.

Care & Customer Responsibility

Solid wood furniture should be treated with the same level of care as other high-end natural surfaces in the home. Coasters, placemats, and protective pads should always be used to prevent moisture rings, heat transfer, scratches, and surface wear. Standing water should never be left on the surface, and spills should be wiped up promptly. Hot items such as cookware, mugs, or serving dishes should not be placed directly on the finish without trivets and coasters for protection. It is best to not place bags, tools, groceries, and other items on the unprotected surface that can cause scuffs and scratches in the finish.

Wood also naturally responds to changes in humidity and temperature. Seasonal movement, subtle expansion or contraction, and changes in appearance are normal characteristics of solid wood furniture and are not considered defects. Maintaining a stable indoor environment helps preserve the integrity and appearance of the piece over time.

To protect the finish, surfaces should only be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water and wiped dry with a soft cloth. Harsh household cleaners, chemicals, oils, or silicone-based products can damage the finish or alter its appearance.

As with any handcrafted heirloom-quality furniture, long-term condition depends greatly on how the piece is treated, used and maintained. Thoughtful daily care is an important part of preserving both the beauty and longevity of your investment.
